Over the next few years, the proportion of households and businesses in the Czech Republic able to use a state-of-the-art internet connection will increase significantly. This is all thanks to fibre optics, which in practice deliver connection speeds of 1 Gb/s or higher. T-Mobile Czech Republic and Vodafone Czech Republic have agreed on a plan to jointly establish almost one million new internet connections. The agreement also includes mutual access to part of the already established connections in various cities, including Prague and Brno. For households, this cooperation will mean not only faster access to the next generation internet, but also competitive tariff offers from both operators.
“Vodafone already offers 1 Gbps internet access to 1.6 million households and businesses. Once the project is completed, Vodafone will offer multi-gigabit connectivity to more than half of Czech households. At the same time, we will continue to improve the parameters of our existing network. We want to contribute towards making the Czech Republic one of the most advanced countries in the world. And in order to do so, we need high-quality networks,” says Petr Dvořák, CEO of Vodafone Czech Republic.
“Our long-term goal is to gradually cover the entire Czech Republic with high-speed internet. Stable and available connections which can handle large volumes of data are absolutely crucial for the competitiveness of local companies and the country as a whole. Last year, we already managed to provide fibre optic connections to 284,000 households in 75 cities and the cooperation agreement will enable us to significantly accelerate construction of key infrastructures. Our contribution to the project is our know-how in establishment of fibre optic infrastructure and state-of-the-art technology in the field of FTTH - Fibre to the Home,” adds José Perdomo Lorenzo, CEO of T-Mobile Czech Republic.
Working together to establish infrastructure also means a more environmentally friendly approach and less disruption of people’s lives. Less excavation and construction work will be required, reducing overall construction time. People and businesses across the Czech Republic will benefit from a faster and more efficient process.
The joint construction project is still in its early stages and T‑Mobile Czech Republic and Vodafone Czech Republic will provide further details at a later date.
