Charles University fell again in the rankings of higher educational institutions by British firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS). The school ranked as high as 233rd place in 2014 put has fallen steadily to 314th place in the newly released 2018 rankings, prague.tv writes. 

The Czech Technical University (ČVUT) in Prague was also in the top 500, ranking 491–500, up from 501–550 in the previous ranking but down from 451–460 in 2016.

Other Czech universities to be ranked were Masaryk University at 551–600,

Brno University of Technology at 601–650 and Palacký University in Olomouc at 701–750.

Charles University spokesman Václav Hájek said the drop has been due to a lack of investment. Despite promises from politicians, the budgets of schools have not increased. Rectors last week sent a letter the prime minister asking for more funds, according to Hájek.

The top school in the world according to QS is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, followed by Stanford, Harvard, and Caltech, all in the US. Europe enters the list next with the UK scoring four in a row: Cambridge, Oxford, University College London and Imperial College London.
