The percentage of Czechs with a university education has increased significantly over the past 10 years, data by the statistical office (ČSÚ) shows, Radio Praha reports. Last year, roughly 20 per cent of Czechs had a university degree, up from 12.1 per cent in 2007. However, the figure still lags behind the European Union average, which is about 6.4 percentage points higher. The most educated population lives in Prague, where nearly four out of 10 adults hold a university degree. The regions with the lowest percentage of degree-holders are Karlovy Vary and Ústí nad Labem, according to the data, which was drawn from the most recent Labour Force Survey, Radio Praha writes.

Meanwhile, many Czech universities continue to accept applicants in some fields, particularly in technical disciplines, but also some philosophical, theological or natural sciences, as the number of applicants has dipped in line with demographic trends, Radio Praha writes. Read more.

Also, at 2.9 percent, the Czech unemployment rate is the lowest in 22 years, and in particular graduates have never had it easier finding work. According to labour office statistics there are currently ten vacancies per graduate, a state of affairs that is attracting young people from Greece, Italy or Spain to the Czech Republic, Radio Praha wrote.
