According to the 2016 Social Progress Index, in the Basic Human Needs Dimension, Czech Republic performs best on Water and Sanitation and has most opportunity to improve on the Shelter component. In the Foundations of Wellbeing Dimension, Czech Republic scores highest on Access to Basic Knowledge but lags on the Health and Wellness component. In the Opportunity Dimension, Czech Republic is strongest on Personal Freedom and Choice and has the most room to improve on Tolerance and Inclusion.
Compared with countries of similar GDP per capita (Cyprus; Estonia; Greece; Hungary; Israel; Korea, Republic of; Lithuania; Malaysia; New Zealand; Poland; Portugal; Russia; Slovakia; Slovenia; Spain), the Czech Republic scored well in categories Internet users, Quality of electricity supply, Perceived criminality. The country scored low, compared with countries with similar GDP per capita, for categories Obesity rate, Suicide rate, Tolerance for immigrants, Greenhouse gas emissions, Freedom of assembly/association, and Years of tertiary schooling, among others.
