Where are all those smart cities we were promised?

Many essential services that once required a trip to city hall can now be done online. Vast networks of sensors help cities measure air and water pollution, reduce energy consumption, and alleviate traffic jams. Smart lighting systems are making streets safer while saving on energy costs. AI-enabled security cameras are helping police catch criminals in the act.
