Despite the complicated conditions, the construction of the T-Mobile optical network continues successfully this year. In the first three quarters of 2020, the operator expanded its coverage by another almost 40,000 households. By the end of the year, another more than 30,000 should be added, so that the total number will be close to 200,000 households for which T-Mobile high-speed internet and digital television will be available.
Especially the period of the first wave of coronavirus was a major challenge. In the spring, the building authorities significantly slowed down their activities and the permit procedure for new construction was completely stopped for some time. The personal collection of consents of property owners with installing of a connection was also affected by the epidemic. “Even so, during the emergency in the spring, we laid two million meters of optical cables and connected 11,000 households,” explains Marek Svoboda, manager of optical network construction program at T-Mobile.
Optics from T-Mobile are now available in Benešov, Břeclav, Uherské Hradiště, Zlín, Prachatice, Humpolec, Louny, Tanvald, Prague's Luka and the Bělský Les, part of Ostrava. Until the end of the year, residents of Svitavy, Nejdek, Rokycany, Liberec and other towns and villages can also look forward to it. In total, this year, T-Mobile will cover at least 70,000 households thanks to its own construction and cooperation with local providers.
“This year has shown how important connection speed and capacity are. And not only for households, but for everyone in the Czech Republic. Therefore, we want to expand our coverage even more intensively, and at the same time we call on state and local government bodies to help us speed up construction,” emphasizes Marek Svoboda.
The T-Mobile optical network is in the FTTH category, ie the optical fiber leads directly to the customer's apartment or house and uses 10GPON technology. This technically enables a transmission speed of up to 10Gbit/s, which T-Mobile plans to offer to its customers in the future.
The optical network brings the most modern elements of Internet connection today and, compared to ordinary metal cable or WiFi, a much more stable, several times faster and safer Internet connection.
Optics can handle multiple services at once. At the same time, you can not only surf the Internet, but also watch digital television with programs of the highest quality. And even in the future, when 4K broadcasting will be available.
