The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016 placed VŠB-technical university of Ostrava among the top 2% of all universities globally (place 301-350). High quality of education, research and technical equipment (supercomputer) are among the reasons for the success of the university. The university is the only Czech university in the ranking. Also, scientists from the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of the Charles University, Prague, cooperate with their Japanese counterparts on the Belle II experiment at the SuperKEKB (CERN-like) collider in Tsukuba, Japan. The ceskapozice.cz server focused on centres of basic research funded by the EU. Currently, there are 48 such centres in the Czech Republic. Commercial activities can present only up to 20% of activities of these centres, EU rules say. The best performers seem to be research centres in Moravian towns of Brno (CEITEC) and Olomouc (RCPTM), for example. Read more.
According to the Institute of Sociology of the Czech Academy of Science, 31% of respondents in a survey conducted by the CVVM agency considered Czerch research to be world-class in most fields. 47% saw Czech science to be at the top level at least in some fields.See details in Czech.
