The Czech capital hosts the 2016 European Rubik’s Cube Championship, as the cube, a Hungarian invention, comes home to Central Europe.
A gym on the outskirts of Prague was the unlikely site this past weekend for one of the highest competitions in a rather obscure sport: the 2016 European Rubik’s Cube Championship. Around 500 competitors from 43 countries, along with their families and friends, gathered in the suburb of Radotin on 15-17 July. On Saturday Mats Valk, 20, from Amsterdam, set a new European record in this category for fastest single solve with a time of 5.13 seconds. He ultimately placed second behind Weyer for the average 3x3 speed cube solve time, the TOL.org portal wrote.
