Following reports and allegations of human rights violations against migrants and refugees in Europe, Council of Europe Secretary General Thorbjørn Jagland has appointed Tomáš Boček as Special Representative on Migration and Refugees, Prague Post informed..
Boček, who has been the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to the Council of Europe since 2010, will take up his duties Feb. 1, 2016...The Special Representative's objective is to collect and analyze information on the human rights situation of migrants and refugees in Europe.
Jagland said: “We will be looking for new legislative initiatives in member states and if necessary also intervene. We will also facilitate cooperation and assistance in such legislative processes. It is important to say that we have to look whether such legislation is in conformity with the European Convention standards and with the case-law of the court”, Prague Post writes.
