In most cases, employees are not allowed to enter the workplace for a certain period of time after arriving from abroad. At the same time, the Ministry of Labor issued a recommendation for a wage compensation in such a case.

The biggest amendment on foreclosures in the last 20 years

At least that is how some, especially politicians, refer to the latest amendment to Act No. 120/2001 Coll., on Bailiffs and Enforcement Activity (the Enforcement Code), which was published in the Collection of Laws under No. 286/2021 (the “Amendment”).

How to stop tsunami of chronic diseases?

Last week, in the AmCham offices, Health MInister Adam Vojtěch led a panel discussion on what could be done to improve prevention of chronic diseases with prof. Vladimír Palička of the Society of Metabolic Diseases, Dr. Petr Šmach of the Škoda Employee Insurer, VZP ČR Deputy Head David Šmehlík, prof. Richard Češka of the Czech Internist Society, and Dr. Petr Šonka of the General Practitioners Society. AmCham Health Care Council Chairs Zuzana Kaifoszová, MD, MBA, ACC and Tomáš Březina of Amgen put together an overview and questions to be discussed.

Czech Parliamentary elections: Now the negotiation

Parliamentary elections over the weekend shifted voter preferences, but did not surprise. Three major party groups (ANO, SPOLU, and PiratStan) were expected to be grouped atop the results. ANO finished in the middle of their expected range of outcomes. SPOLU received support at the top of their expected range. PiratStan finished below their expected outcome. The only other party to receive enough votes to be represented in Parliament- SPD- finished in the lower range of their expected outcomes. The Social Democrats and the Communist Party both fell out of Parliament for the first time since 1992. Turnout bumped up from 2017 (+5%).

Inflation is still not easing – rather the opposite

Inflation in September again surprised with higher-than-expected growth. The main driver is housing costs, including the incipient rise in energy prices. Year-on-year core inflation rose to 6%. There is no doubt that the CNB will continue to raise interest rates.
