Calculating fines for associations based on members’ turnover enters practice of the Czech Competition Office
At the end of November 2022, the Chairman of the Czech Office for the Protection of Competition (“Office”) confirmed the decision to fine the anticompetitive conduct of the Association of Language Schools of the Czech Republic (“Association”). For the first time ever, the first instance decision had fined an association of undertakings based on the turnover of its members, who would be jointly liable for the payment of the fine. Following an appeal, the decision has modified the duration of the misconduct and a new first instance decision is now awaited regarding the recalculation of the fine amount.
Legal Alert | Discount on insurance premiums for employers
On 1 February 2023, an amendment to Act No. 589/1992 Coll., on social security premiums and premiums to state employment policy, will come into force. The amendment introduces a discount on insurance premiums for employers who, on a part-time basis, employ designated groups of employees for whom it is usually more difficult to find employment on the labour market.
Presidential Election 2023 - Report on 2nd round
Over the weekend, voters went to the polls to decide the winner of the second round of the Czech presidential election. The first round took place two weeks ago. Of the 8 candidates, Andrej Babiš a former Prime Minister and one of the richest Czech citizens, and Petr Pavel a former army general and leading NATO official, were sent to the final round with similar support of 35 %.
