Future of the Czech Post

The future of the Czech Post was discussed mainly among Minister of Interior Milan Chovanec, whose ministry is responsible for the company, Minister of Finance Andrej Babiš and Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka. Prime Minister denied that the Czech Post would be privatized or even changed from the state firm to the stock company. Along with Minister of Interior he confirmed that all the branches (including the unprofitable ones) would be preserved to be able to offer services to entire Czech population. The problem is that the unprofitable branches need subventions and Minister of Finance Andrej Babiš is against direct subventions and is for more subtle measures such as banking services or providing cash register services for Financial Administration or Customs Administration. Last year Czech Post revenues decreased by 1 bn to 19.5 bn CZK and the profit was 305 million CZK.
