Roaming fees coming to an end

MEPs voted in favour of abandoning roaming fees for making phone calls, sending text messages or downloading data within the EU. The resolution came as a reaction to the large price differences and unbalanced profit margins on roaming that are causing large fragmentation of the telecommunications market as well as lack of competitiveness on a global scale. The gap between national tarrifs and roaming fees should be closed by the end of 2015. The European Commission put forward a legislative package at the beginning of September and thanks to quick response made by the European Parliament, the package can be discussed by the European Council already on 24 and 25 October.
