Its hard to be an American abroad these days. Almost every European asks if America has finally gone absolutely crazy. Maybe. The silver lining is that the question presupposes that the US was not already out-of-its-mind nuts. Which is progress of a sort in US and European relations.

The reason for the question is that large numbers of Americans are voting for Donald Trump. He may even become the Republican nominee for President– something that the two past Republican nominees– Mitt Romney and John McCain– have decried as a disaster. Many election experts think such criticism will help Trump. So what is going on and how likely is it?
