Eurostat: 65% in the EU, 45% in the Czech Republic Know at Least One Foreign Language | Hays on Rising Demand for Multilingual Candidates
On the occasion of the European Day of Languages, figures on self-reported language skills show that in 2016, 65 % of working-age adults in the European Union (EU) knew at least one foreign language. In some Member States, knowledge of foreign languages was particularly high. For example, more than 90 % of respondents knew at least one foreign language in these countries: Sweden (97 %), Latvia, Denmark and Lithuania (all 96%), Luxembourg (95 %), Finland and Malta (both 92 %) and Estonia (91 %).

OECD Education at a Glance: Czech Republic: Gender pay gap among the highest, spending per student from primary to tertiary level among the lowest in OECD
The most recent OECD Education at a Glance report finds that in the Czech Republic, gender pay gap is among the highest and spending per student from primary to tertiary level is among the lowest in OECD. 93% of tertiary-educated men are employed, compared with 71% of tertiary-educated women. In 2016, 35-44 year-old women with a tertiary education earned 66% of what their male counterparts earned.

Radio Praha: Last year, roughly 20 per cent of Czechs had a university degree, up from 12.1 per cent in 2007
The percentage of Czechs with a university education has increased significantly over the past 10 years, data by the statistical office (ČSÚ) shows, Radio Praha reports. Last year, roughly 20 per cent of Czechs had a university degree, up from 12.1 per cent in 2007. Meanwhile, many Czech universities continue to accept applicants in some fields, particularly in technical disciplines, but also some philosophical, theological or natural sciences.
