The rules for Ukrainian refugees in EU countries

Due to the Russian invasion in Ukraine, the European Union has – for the first time ever since 2001 – activated the so-called Temporary Protective Directive No 2001/55/EC (the “Directive”) by the Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/382 of 4 March 2022 (the “Decision”).

As of March 21, 2022, there is an effective set of laws regulating the status of Ukrainian refugees in the Czech Republic and their involvement in society, the so-called "Lex Ukraine". Lex Ukraine primarily allows refugees to obtain so-called temporary protection and start working in the Czech Republic without further formalities.
