The Czech government has approved its bill to promote the building of new nuclear blocks. The state will guarantee electricity prices and customers will pay the difference.

New COVID programme – Accommodation

The government has approved the Ministry of Local Development’s proposal to provide new support to providers of accommodation services. The state will contribute CZK 100 to CZK 300 per every room according to the standard of accommodation over the period of the closure of an accommodation facility due to the government decree. A call to participate in this programme is expected to be announced in August.

Has the end come for the real estate transfer tax?

The finance ministry’s bill proposing the abolition of the real estate transfer tax (which is 4% of the total purchase price) passed third reading in the House of Deputies on 8 July 2020.

Czech retail sales weaker but unemployment better than expected

While the Czech unemployment rate in July increased slightly, signalling the limited impact of the Covid-19 crisis on the labour market, retails sales came in below market estimates as the recovery in sales was slower than anticipated

Cancelling EU-USA Privacy Shield

The decision of Commission on the adequate level of protection afforded by the EU-US Privacy Shield (so-called Privacy Shield) has been declared invalid by the decision of the European Court of Justice (ECJ) of 16 June 2020, because the US law allows for a comprehensive access by public authorities to personal data and do not provide sufficient protection for the data transmitted or effective legal protection for data subjects.
