ILO: In Europe long-term unemployment continues to climb despite receding unemployment rates

In both Europe and North America, long-term unemployment remains stubbornly high compared to pre-crisis levels. new ILO report says. Considering that the CEE regional employment growth is projected to remain in negative territory, the expected unemployment reduction is mainly attributable to a reduction in the labour force of 0.7 per cent per year between 2016 and 2018, partly explained by rising emigration rates.

Aspen Institute Prague/J. Springford: Why a Hard Brexit Is Likely

Oxford Economics, a consultancy, reckons replacing single market membership with a trade agreement would cost the UK between 0.75 and 3 percent of GDP, depending on how comprehensive the trade deal is and how open Britain remains to immigration. Meanwhile, the International Monetary Fund has upgraded its economic forecasts for the eurozone and the UK this year, but said British growth would slow down in 2018.
