Aspen Institute Prague: State of the Digital Economy in Central and Eastern Europe - study | Czech Republic, Poland: similarities and differences in digital development

The current state of digital economy development in the CEE lies closely behind the EU 28 average in most of the relevant indicators. The promotion of digital economy is moving up the ladder of political priorities in many CEE states, particularly the V4 countries. The focus is mainly on building a robust Internet infrastructure, particularly the NGA-fiber networks, which constitutes a necessary basis for the development of more advanced online business and government services, the study Digital Heart of Europe: Low pressure or hypertension? State of the Digital Economy in Central and Eastern Europe published by the Aspen Institute Prague says.

Prague Post: Prague tops CEE in quality of living

Ranking by Mercer puts Czech capital at 69th place worldwide, next to Detroit, out of 230 evaluated cities.That was good enough to be the best in Central and Eastern Europe, but far behind nearby Vienna, which was number one worldwide and in Europe, Prague Post writes. Last year, Prague ranked 68th.

Česko v datech/Hlidacipes.org: Number of students enrolled in technical university education rose by 18% since 2001

The number of students enrolled in technical university education rose by 18% since 2001, compared with an increase of 120% in humanities' students, Cesko v datech / Hlidacipes.org wrote. Also, the number of students who completed their university degree rose from over 30,000 in 2001 to over 88,000 in the academic year 2014/2015. The share of population with tertiary education (28%) is still bellow the OECD average of 32%.

European Investment Bank lending in Czech Republic 2011-2015 | EIB opens Prague office | Q&A on EIP, EFSI

Eurpean Investment Bank's investment in the Czech Republic came to EUR 324 million in 2015. Of this amount, 77% benefitted the country’s SMEs and Midcaps, while the remaining 23% financed small-scale investments targeting energy efficiency measures. Over the past five years (2011-2015) the EIB has invested EUR 4.3 billion in the Czech Republic. OECD: Global Economic Outlook and Interim Economic Outlook | CNB global economic outlook

In the Global Economic Outlook and Interim Economic Outlook, the OECD projects that the global economy will grow by 3 percent this year and 3.3 percent in 2017, which is well below long-run averages of around 3¾ percent. The Interim Economic Outlook calls for a stronger policy response, changing the policy mix to confront the current weak growth more effectively. It points out that sole reliance on monetary policy has proven insufficient to boost demand and produce satisfactory growth, while fiscal policy is contractionary in several major economies and structural reform momentum has slowed....
