Levies on emissions tied to imports will impact companies inside and outside the EU and could alter the competitive balance between nations in many industries.

Companies around the world that export to the European Union—the world’s largest single market—are now on notice. After years of discussion and debate, the European Commission in late July unveiled its long-anticipated plans to make importers and non-EU manufacturers pay for the carbon emissions associated with the goods and materials they sell in the EU.

Industry dropped strongly due to car manufacturers

Industry fell sharply below all estimates in August, mainly due to a drop in car production. Hand in hand with this, the foreign trade balance also deteriorated. Construction output grew slightly. In summary, the published data were worse than expected, and although it is not good to draw strong conclusions from the summer months, supply chain problems appear to continue to weigh heavily on industry.

Return of employees from abroad

In most cases, employees are not allowed to enter the workplace for a certain period of time after arriving from abroad. At the same time, the Ministry of Labor issued a recommendation for a wage compensation in such a case.
