AmCham France: French Presidential Elections: Emmanuel Macron and Marine Le Pen will compete in the final round, after a defeat of mainstream parties
Following yesterday's vote, Emmanuel Macron, who describes himself as liberal and centrist, came first (23,86%) and will face off against the runner-up, Marine Le Pen (21,43%) of the far right. This is the first time in the Fifth Republic that the candidates of France’s established parties (the Socialists and Republicans) have not reached the run-off, AmCham France comments.

The Economist Intelligence Unit's (EIU’s) Democracy Index 2016 measures the state of democracy by rating electoral processes and pluralism, the state of civil liberties, the functioning of government, political participation and political culture in more than 160 countries worldwide.
