AmCham Policy Report - Issue 1 - January 25: US Trade Policy: Upping the ante for high-stakes poker
On what President Trump called his first day in office, he signed an executive order informing the other countries party to the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP) that the United States was withdrawing from the proposed treaty. This action delivered on one of the President's promises from the election campaign, and, as White House press spokesman Sean Spicer declared, "signals a new era in trade relations" for the United States.

NPR: New Czech government unit seeks to monitor fake news - interview
Beyond the U.S., many countries are concerned that fake news stories could influence voters. The Czech Republic has elections later this year, and the country is so concerned about this problem that it has opened a new center against terrorism and hybrid threats. One of its key missions is to monitor social media and identify stories that it deems to be false. To talk about it, we are joined via Skype by Tomas Prouza, the Czech government state secretary for European affairs.

US Presidential Election: What awaits the new President?
Donald Trump won the 2016 US presidential election. It was a narrow victory. He received 304 electoral votes, which ranks 46th out of the 58 elections for the US presidency. That is more than George W. Bush received in either 2000 or 2004, but less than any other President since Jimmy Carter won with 297 electors in 1976. President Obama, for example, won 365 electoral college votes in 2008, and Ronald Reagan won 525 of the 538 electors in 1984. Read AmCham CZ analysis.
