Transparency International CR: 47 local referenda in 2014 is sign of interest, engagement; 21 out of 47 were citizens' initiative

Fourty-seven local referenda took place in 2014, a record high since 2006. The average turnout reached 42.2% of voters and 24 referenda out of the 47 were declared invalid (a record high, too). Nevertheless, the citizens show interest and the problem lies often with municipalities, Transparency International Czech Republic says.

Radio Prague: New (Czech) dean of NATO Defense College: Our perception of what presents a threat sometimes differs

Brigadier General František Mičánek, head of the Centre for Security and Military Strategic Studies at the University of Defense in Brno, was recently elected Dean of NATO Defense College in Rome. He is the second Czech to secure a high post in NATO defense structures, following General Petr Pavel’s appointment as chairman of NATO's Military Committee.
