Inflation is still running faster

Inflation remained at higher levels in June, slightly above market estimates and the CNB forecast. The main reason for higher inflation is core prices excluding food and energy. Overall, the surprise is small and implies a continuation of the CNB's willingness to further tighten monetary policy in the near future.

Kurzarbeit (short-time working) will be available to employers in the Czech Republic

On 1 July 2021, an amendment to the Czech Employment Act came into force. Under this change, employers will have access to state relief in case of partial unemployment (Kurzarbeit) resulting from a serious economic crisis caused by an extraordinary event:

  • natural disasters
  • epidemics
  • cyber attacks
  • or other serious force majeure events.

Fashion industry: Main trends and related investment potential

Whereas in the past, fashion trends were set by designers at their own shows, today the opposite is true – customers themselves determine what they expect from fashion. Fast fashion is increasingly becoming the target of criticism, as people expect sustainability, quality and a perfect shopping experience across channels. If they want to survive, and better yet prosper, both major and small fashion-industry players must respond accordingly. And those brands that have long played a role in shaping current trends or are quick to adopt them represent interesting investment potential.

Holiday Season Begins: Fly from Prague to Over 100 Destinations

With the beginning of the summer holiday season, the offer of places to where passengers can fly from Prague aboard direct flights continues to expand. Currently, Czech and foreign tourists can choose from more than 100 destinations, including charter flights, operated by over 35 airlines. During July 2021, direct flights will also be launched by carriers on new routes to a number of places across Europe. Ryanair is to fly to Modlin Airport in Warsaw, easyJet to launch a new connection to Barcelona, while Wizz Air is to offer flights to Rome and Catania. Smartwings has been flying to Nice on the Côte d'Azur since Thursday.

Chamber of deputies approves reduction in support for solar power and expansion of the solar levy

During yesterday’s session the Chamber of Deputies passed an amendment to the Act on Supported Energy Sources introducing a review of ROI on investments in supported energy sources that could in the future lead to restricted support for existing photovoltaic power plants.
