Czech Republic: Strong retail sales in December
Retail sales (excluding cars) increased by a strong 8.3% month-on-month in December, as retailers were allowed to open again following a lockdown at the end of October. From a year-on-year perspective, sales increased by 3.7% from a 6% fall in November, above market expectations. For the whole of 2020, sales fell just slightly by 0.6% YoY

Adjustment of the facemask obligation as of 1 February
Lufthansa is adapting the obligation to wear mouth-nose covers while travelling. From 1 February 2021, only facemasks of the following standards will be permitted on flights to and from Germany: FFP2, KN95 and N95 standard or surgical masks. These have to be worn during boarding, on board and when leaving the aircraft. Masks made of fabric will no longer be permitted, visors and masks with valves have not been permitted already. Thus, in order to protect the health of all passengers and employees, the Lufthansa Group Airlines are taking up the regulation the German federal states have issued on 19 January 2021.

Chamber of deputies holds 1st reading for government bill of RES amendment
On January 27, 2021 the Chamber of Deputies held the first reading of the anticipated government bill amending Act No. 165/2012, on promoted energy sources and the amendment of certain acts (the “Bill”). During the discussion, which lasted only a few minutes, Ministry of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček spoke and briefly introduced the Bill. The Chamber of Deputies then voted to send the Bill to the economic committee for discussion. It did not get enough votes to be sent to the constitutional law committee or the environmental committee.
