Senate Election Report 2020
The second round of the 1/3 Senate elections was dominated by the centrist and right-wing parties that form the opposition to the central government – the Mayors and Independents, Civic Democrats and Cristian Democrats – who won 18 out of the 27 seats available. The government coalition parties (the ANO and Social Democrats), on the other hand, failed miserably, winning just one seat. The Social Democrats even lost their own senatorial club after the election.
Czech Republic: Stricter Covid restrictions force GDP rethink
The Czech government introduced a new set of measures yesterday due to the surge of Covid-19 infections. Measures are focused mainly on limiting gatherings of people, impacting restaurants, culture events, sports and related services. We revise our 2020 GDP forecast to -7.5% from -6.5%
Retail Price Maintenance in the EU
A classic price-fixing arrangement typically takes the form of a cartel, i.e. a price fixing arrangement between competitors. Price fixing is also prohibited for companies in a vertical relationship (active at different levels of the supply chain such as a manufacturer and a retailer).
Summary of the amendment to the corporate law and specific recommendations
An amendment to the Business Corporations Act will become effective from 1 January 2021. The new regulation brings fundamental changes to corporate law, introduces new institutes and options, tries to clarify practical problems of interpretation, and approves – but also refutes – some conclusions reached by the case law during the past six years. Finally, the amendment eliminates some legislative-technical shortcomings.
